Peggy Ann Staley, 86, of Sequim, WA, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Born on June 30, 1939, in Houston, Texas, Peggy was the beloved daughter of Nathen A. Wilson and Mary Strobel Johnson. She grew up in Pasadena, Texas.
Peggy will be remembered most for her deep love of family, her generous spirit, and her faithful devotion to God and to His Church. She was a devoted wife and mother who truly made her house a home. Holidays and family gatherings were especially important to her, and she always went above and beyond to create meaningful memories and traditions for those she loved. Her greatest joy was caring for her family in countless ways, both big and small. She also had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends immensely and had seen many parts of the world.
Peggy worked at the Weatherford College Library and later earned her master’s degree in library science, combining her love of learning, organization, and service to others. She also used her skills to help catalog private libraries, including St. Mary’s Library at St. Mary Star of the Sea parish in Port Townsend, always bringing care and dedication to her work.
She generously gave her time through volunteer work and parish life. Peggy faithfully participated in the Rosary prayer chain at St. Mary Star of the Sea parish, praying for those in need. She also helped make rosaries with the Rosary Makers at St. Mary’s and lovingly assisted with funeral mass receptions, especially enjoying cooking and serving alongside the other ladies of the parish community.
Above all, Peggy was a faithful follower of Our Lord who quietly and consistently encouraged her family in the Catholic faith by her example. Her witness of what it means to be a loving mother, a faithful Christian, and a selfless servant to others will remain a lasting gift to all who knew her. Her family will be forever grateful for her example, her unwavering love, her generosity, and the many sacrifices she made throughout her life.
Peggy is survived by her children, Kim Staley, Mary Laiti (Jay Laiti), and Chris Staley (Kellie McMaster), and their two boys, Aidan and Kilian Staley. She is preceded in death by her husband, Glenn E. Staley; her sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Senit Morgan; and her parents, Nathen A. Wilson and Mary Strobel Johnson.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on June 20 at St. Mary Star of the Sea church, with burial immediately following at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, 4299 San Juan Ave, Port Townsend, WA 98368. A reception will take place in the church hall after the burial at approximately 12:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to attend and share memories. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cross Catholic Outreach at https://crosscatholic.org/donate/.
Though Peggy is no longer with us, her love and presence will always live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
