Marilyn Shaver was born Marilyn Gough in San Francisco, CA on 28 October 1938 to John and Ruth (Rondolph) Gough. Marilyn was in Honolulu, HI during the Pearl Harbor attacks on 7 December 1941 when she was with family to visit her uncle. He was an architect working in Honolulu at the time. It was some 6 months before they were able to get back to the mainland. Marilyn's stepfather was an army officer and was stationed in Japan (Yokosuka and Sendai) for two years in the early 1950s, before moving to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, where she met and married Donald Shaver in December 1957. The family lived in Iowa until 1977, when they transferred to Bainbridge Island, WA. They lived there for a number of years, then moved to a house in Port Ludlow in the early 1990s. After Donald's death in 2014, Mom lived alone, then with her daughter and son-in-law. In 2020, she moved into the house of her caregiver, Bennett, until her death on 3 May 2022. Marilyn was an avid Irish Setter enthusiast and was well known throughout the country as a breeder and shower, and later as a judge at dog shows. She still has many friends in the Irish Setter Club of Seattle, with which she was affiliated for many years. Marilyn and Donald also became carousel enthusiasts for many years, and a carousel at the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium has a plaque listing them as the sponsors of one of the horses. Marilyn was always very proud of this horse. Marilyn and Donald were also very active with PAWS for many years on Bainbridge Island and were responsible for helping many pets. Marilyn is survived by her son, Scott Shaver and his wife Joanne, her daughter, Laura Smith, her grandchildren, Katherin Carter and Joseph Shaver (both living in Virginia), and her brothers, Wallace Middleton and Kenneth Gough (both living in the Bay Area, California).
