Laurie Nichols died, peacefully, on July 5, 2025, at Jefferson Healthcare Medical Center. People from Port Townsend will recognize her, though they may not have known her name, from her open and friendly presence at McDonald's and Donn's Pharmacy and, joyfully, at Port Townsend Pride Parades.
Prior to moving to Port Townsend, Laurie was a carpenter when the field was just opening up to women. She trained dogs for a time and dogs were an important part of her life. She worked for Evergreen Health Hospice for years and cared deeply for her patients. She believed people should be treated with dignity and respect and was quick to point out injustice. With her passing we are reminded to truly see and value those who spontaneously enrich and uphold us, day to day, in the Port Townsend community.
No memorial is planned at this time. Donations in Laurie's name may be made to Jefferson Healthcare Home Health and Hospice.
