Frederica Jacobs Lofquist

June 21, 1928 — May 7, 2025

Frederica “Freddie” Jacobs Lofquist passed away peacefully May 7, 2025 in Port Townsend, Washington at age 96 after a short illness.

Freddie was born at home in Norristown, Pennsylvania on June 21, 1928 to Alice Seavey and Clifton Newman Jacobs. She attended Baldwin School, Friends Central School and Hood College until her marriage to Alden Alexander Lofquist Jr in December 1955. They were married for 50 years until his death in 2005.

She and Alden raised their family primarily in the San Francisco Bay Area and then moved to the Southeastern seaboard.

Freddie made her home in Aiken South Carolina for 35 years after her husband’s transfer to the Savannah River Site, and she leaves countless friends made through her many interests and outgoing spirit. She was an active and committed member of the DAR for over 70 years, serving many roles at local and national levels. She brought her impressive experience in history and genealogy to everywhere she lived. She enjoyed membership in numerous other genealogic organizations and continued her research into the history of the various branches of the Jacobs, Seavey and Lofquist families throughout her life. For many years she worked tirelessly as a volunteer at the Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame and Museum. She delighted in her associations with Aiken’s Book Club, Driving Club and bridge clubs. She enjoyed and supported Hitchcock Woods and always looked forward to breakfast at the Track Kitchen. She was a talented and inspiring knitter and generations of friends and family enjoy her beautiful sweaters.

Freddie moved to Port Townsend in 2023 to be close to her family. She loved the water and islands of the Pacific Northwest and the rhythms of her new town tied to the movements of the ferry, which she never tired of watching.

She will be missed by everyone she touched with her curiosity, indomitable spirit and generosity.

She leaves her daughter Frederica Seavey Lofquist of Port Townsend, granddaughter Sarah Frederica Gillies (Graham Gillies) of San Anselmo, CA, grandchildren Megan and Alden Lofquist of Portland OR and beloved great-grandchildren Abigail Frederica and Calum Alexander Gillies also of San Anselmo. Her son Alden Alexander Lofquist III passed away in 2014.

A small family memorial will be held in Inverness, California.

Family and friends are invited to share memories of Freddie and sign the online guestbook.
