Obituary

With heavy hearts but profound gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Daniel Ray Fountain on June 28, 2026 at his home in Port Townsend, Washington with his wife Debbie by his side. Daniel was born on September 18, 1955 in Norman, Oklahoma.

Daniel was the beloved son of Clarence and Bette Fountain (Thacker) and the beloved brother of Rock Fountain (Cathie), Michele Sather (Arne), Julie Churchley (Steve), and Nikki Snyder (Nick). He is now reunited in eternal peace with his father Clarence, whose legacy Daniel carried forward with pride and dedication.

A devoted husband to Debra Lynn Hornburg for 45 wonderful years, Daniel's life was a testament to love, commitment and family values. He and Debbie were married on March 21, 1981, and together they raised three wonderful children who were the pride and joy of his life: Kalie Fountain, Gabriel Fountain (Karla), Jeremiah Fountain (Molly Vieira). He was the cherished "Dappy" to five grandchildren: Ellaina, Orlando, Oliver, Apollo and Atlas and one great granddaughter Everleigh. They all brought immense joy and laughter into his days.

Daniel graduated from Port Townsend High School in 1974 and attended Eastern Washington University graduating in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science in Community Health and a Bachelor of Arts in Education with minors in athletic coaching and physical education. His passion for teaching and coaching led him to a career with the Port Townsend School District from 1985-2000. Daniel was not just a teacher and coach, he was a mentor, a guide and a source of inspiration for countless young lives including his own sons and nephews who he had the privilege of coaching. Daniels love for football and his dedication to the Port Townsend Redskins were legendary.

A man of deep faith and devotion, Daniel was a proud member of the Port Townsend Seventh Day Adventist Church. His unwavering belief in God was a cornerstone of his life, providing him with peace and strength. He was known for his infectious humor, his ability to make those around him laugh and his knack for turning ordinary moments into cherished memories. His children lovingly kept a notebook of his most memorable jokes and funny quotes, a testament to the joy he brought into their lives. He sent countless texts and creations to family and friends to keep them entertained.

The Fountain family wishes to extend their heart felt gratitude to TJ Miller and his family of Glasgow Montana. TJ's family gave the selfless gift of organ donation 26 years ago and gave us the gift of more time with Daniel, a blessing for which we are eternally grateful.
