David Allen Petersen

David A. Petersen October 14, 1945 - February 6, 2022 David A. Petersen was born in Port Townsend, Washington on October 14, 1945 and passed away at Providence Hospital in Everett, Washington on February 6, 2022 after treatments for cancer and complications from Covid 19. He was a longtime resident of Jefferson County prior to moving to the east Puget Sound area. He was proceeded in death by his grandparents Gus and Esther Erickson and Russell and Sally Richardson; his mother Mary Hendricks; and brothers Charles Petersen, Larry Petersen and Earl Hendricks. He is survived by his longtime partner Gladys Hendrickson at the family home in Granite Falls, Washington; two sons Wayne Petersen of Hoodsport, Washington and Scott Petersen of Tacoma, Washington; and daughter Brenda Riensmith of Lynden Washington. He is also survived by his brother Gene Petersen of Touchet, Washington, six grandchildren, and seven first cousins. David attended grades 1-12 in Chimacum School District, graduating from Chimacum High School in 1964. While in school he was active in 4 H, FFA, and participated in high school athletics in football, basketball and baseball. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving two years of active duty as a heavy equipment operator in West Germany from 1968-70, building airports and housing on US military installations in West Germany. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1970. During his working career after high school, David was a derrick operator for Crown Zellarbach Paper Company in Port Townsend, and worked for Shold Excavating/Cotton Redimix in Port Hadlock. He moved to Concrete, Washington and opened his own back hoe business which he operated for many years. After closing his business, he worked as a short haul truck driver operating out of Granite Falls, Washington serving Everett and the Seattle/Tacoma areas until his retirement. When David was a Jefferson County resident he enjoyed crabbing, clam digging, fishing and hunting, as well as working with heavy equipment. Graveside services will be held at 12pm on May 7th, 2022 at Greenwood Cemetery in Chimacum for family and friends followed by a celebration of life at 1pm at the Port Townsend Elks Club, 555 Otto St. Port Townsend, Washington for family and friends.
